Škofja Loka imprinted honey gingerbread
Honey. Wooden models. A tradition of over 200 years
Honey. Wooden models. A tradition of over 200 years
Imprinted gingerbread. Quality in the details.
Our gingerbread is made according to the old Škofja Loka tradition of pressing into wooden molds.
The basis consists of honey, spices, and natural dough maturation.
We do not use artificial colors or flavorings.
Every impression remains in the dough — and in the taste.
Our gingerbread is made with real Slovenian honey and no added flavourings. Honey gives natural sweetness, depth of flavour and the characteristic colour of the dough. The taste is gentle, balanced and warm.
Each piece is pressed by hand into a carved wooden mould. The relief is not decoration – it is part of the dough itself. The imprint stays clear after baking, with no colourings.
We make the dough with a natural sourdough starter and give it time to mature. That is why we need no artificial improvers or flavour enhancers. The sourdough develops a fuller aroma, a better texture and a balanced taste.
Our gingerbread has a long shelf life and travels well. It is packed securely to keep its shape and relief. We ship within Slovenia and to other European countries.
We are preserving the tradition of imprinted gingerbread
Medeno srce (Honey heart) is an artisanal gingerbread workshop in the historic center of Škofja Loka.
Our gingerbread is not decorative, but rather a relief imprint in wood.
The taste remains at the heart of our product.
How our gingerbread is made
Every gingerbread is made slowly and by hand.
We prepare the dough with honey, spices, and a natural sourdough starter. We let it ripen so that its full flavor and characteristic aroma can develop. The dough is hand-pressed into wooden molds, just as it was done over 200 years ago. The relief remains clean and distinct—no coloring, no unnecessary additives. The baked gingerbreads are left to rest so that their texture settles and their flavor becomes well-rounded. Each piece is a small imprint of history.
